Administrative Operations Major
Major Robert Hansen has worked for the Iowa Department of Public Safety for over 32 years and currently serves as the Administrative Operations Officer based in Des Moines.
In 1987, he started his career as a Capitol Police Officer in Des Moines, and later transferred to Webster City as a Trooper with the Iowa State Patrol. Major Hansen has served in several leadership positions both within the Division of State Patrol as well as Departmentally including: Public Information Bureau Chief, Safety Education & Chaplain Coordinator, Academy Commander & Training Bureau Chief, District 15 Commander (MCSAP, Vehicle Theft & Technical Collision Investigation) CALEA Accreditation Manager, Assistant Field Operations Officer, and Assistant Administrative Operations Officer Major Hansen served on the Tactical Unit and served as an instructor in the disciplines of Emergency Vehicle Operations, Defensive Tactics, and O/C.
His job duties include: Leadership and management of the State Patrol budget, Fleet & Supply, Human Resources-including Workers Compensation, and Vertical Infrastructure for fifteen properties across the state. Ensuring compliance with state policies and procedures regarding the acquisition of goods and services while simultaneously efficiently delivering support to the members of the Division.
Major Hansen is a graduate of Columbia Southern University – Human Resource Management, Northwestern University – School of Police Staff & Command, and Drake University – Certified Public Manager. Major Hansen is a member of the Police Unity Tour – volunteering and fundraising annually for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington D.C.
