Field Operations Major
Major Mark Stine has worked for the Iowa Department of Public Safety for over 32 years and currently serves as the Field Operations Commander based in Des Moines.
In 1989, he started his career as an officer with the Capitol Police Division. In 1990, he transferred to the State Patrol District 12 in Davenport. Major Stine has held several leadership positions within the division including: District 2 Assistant Commander (Osceola), District 1 Commander (Des Moines), and Field Operations Captain in Des Moines. Major Stine was a member and team leader of the Area A and Area D Tactical Units for over 20 years, holds instructor certificates in several areas and has taught various courses at the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Basic Academy.
His job duties include: Ensuring integrity and accountability in the delivery of support and services to the public and other entities of state government, creation and application of short and long-term operational goals, provide guidance and direction to Area Commanders, and Assistant Field Operations Officer. Support, assist, and facilitate the implementation of goals and objectives for the Iowa State Patrol.
Major Stine is a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Staff and Command. Prior to his service with the Iowa State Patrol, Major Stine served in the United States Marine Corps.
