The report is used to provide a summary of the funded status of the system and to determine the normal contribution rate.

The purpose of an experience study is to periodically review and analyze the actual experience of the plan, which may lead to a revision of one or more actuarial economic or demographic assumptions. An experience study is currently performed about every five years.
