The Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant Program provides funding to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner services. Among other things, funds may be used to eliminate a backlog in the analysis of forensic evidence. It may also be used to train and employ forensic laboratory personnel, as needed, to eliminate such a backlog.
Funding
State Formula
The Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP) is the State Administering Agency for the Coverdell Grant Program in Iowa. ODCP is responsible for submitting the state application to the National Institute of Justice (NIJ).
Competitive Grants
NIJ limits state agencies to a single competitive application from each state.
Local agencies can apply directly to the National Institute of Justice for competitive funding.
