DCI Assists Decatur County With Shooting Investigation

DES MOINES, Iowa - On Sunday, July 19, 2020, at 9:38 a.m., Decatur County law enforcement and emergency medical services responded to a report of a shooting at 20055 272nd Ave, in rural Decatur County.
 
Responding officers found the home’s resident, Thane Simmons, 21, with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Mr. Simmons was treated at the scene and then airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
 
At the request of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation, Major Crime Unit, assisted with the investigation. 
 
Based on the findings of the investigation, there are no known threats that exist to the public. No additional information will be released.
