BEDFORD, Iowa - On Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at approximately 10:55 pm, the Taylor County Communications Center received a 911 call from 108 Pearl Street in Bedford, Iowa, reporting a death. Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff's Department responded to investigate the 911 call, and upon arrival observed Penny Sue Godfirnon, 62, of Bedford, had been assaulted with a knife. Godfirnon was later pronounced deceased.

Authorities identified a male suspect as Christian Andrew May, 32, of Bedford. May was transported to the Taylor County Jail and arrested on the following charges:

  • First-Degree Murder – Class A Felony
  • Willful Injury – Class C Felony

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation and defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
