WATERLOO, Iowa - On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Blackhawk County dispatch received a report of a male with a long gun on or near the 6th Street Bridge in Waterloo. Two deputies with the Blackhawk County Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area.  As they made contact with the male, he pointed the weapon at the initial deputy at hip level and chased after the deputy.  A responding Waterloo Police Officer observed what was occurring and fired at the male, striking him twice.  The male was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital for treatment for his injuries and later transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The officer and deputies were uninjured.  

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating this incident.
