DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa traffic safety officials report a recent spike in fatalities in 2021, and we’re on a trend to potentially exceed previous totals on the heels of a year when COVID-19 wrote a new chapter of dangerous driving behaviors in Iowa. The statewide Traffic Fatality Reduction Task Force will share the alarming data, the problems and solutions to reverse this deadly trend — and says Iowans have the power in their hands to bring fatalities under 300 for the first time since 1925.fatalities under 300 for the first time since 1925.

LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLES ON DISPLAY: Iowa State Patrol Trooper Jave Colburn’s squad car was damaged while providing assistance for the I-80 pileup on Feb. 4, 2021. Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer Theresa Fox’s vehicle was damaged after being hit by a commercial vehicle while providing traffic control  for a work zone on Feb. 24, 2021.
