MAPLETON, Iowa -- At approximately 9:40 PM on January 31, 2020, Mapleton Police and EMS responded to a 911 call of a shooting that occurred in Mapleton.  The name of the victim has been identified as 16-year-old Joseph Hopkins of Mapleton, Iowa.  An autopsy was conducted on Monday by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.  Hopkins died as a result of a single gunshot wound.  Investigators do not believe there is a current danger to the public.  The investigation is ongoing and no further details are being released at this time.
